Refugee

You said, follow me
Leave the smoke upon the sea
Let the birds and forest be
Close the door… so quietly

You said, walk behind
Let the hallway clocks unwind
Brush against the olive tree
Save the rest… for memory

Ours have died for Freedom’s light
We shall not let it go
We will stand against the night
Until true peace can grow

Leave the ancient lemon grove
Leave the food upon the stove
Empty coatrack on the floor
No need to lock… the old oak door

Leave the pale sky behind
Leave the grapes upon the vine
Quickly take what you can find
Perhaps one day… there’ll come a time

Ours have died for Freedom’s light
We shall not let it go
We will stand against the night
Until true peace can grow

You risked your life to come save mine
I’ll be in debt, for all my time
I didn’t get to know your name
I hope one day, I’ll do the same
